About Youth Build Detroit

YouthBuild May be the Place for You if You:
  • Live in Detroit;
  • Are between the ages of 18 and 24;
  • Didn't complete high school or the GED;
  • Have a low income;
  • Want to earn your GED;
  • Want to learn about the construction trades;
  • Would like to give back to your community by building housing for low-income families.
The 5 Key Parts of the YouthBuild Program:
  • Academics - Preparation for the GED test as well as building trades apprenticeship tests.
  • Construction Training - On-the-job training in the skilled construction trades.
  • Leadership - Give back to the community through community service projects, public speaking, and program governance.
  • Counseling - Guidance and support in learning life skills to help students succeed.
  • Job Development and Graduate Assistance - Job readiness training; job placement assistance for qualified graduates as well as follow-up counseling.
YouthBuild is a full-time, 10-month program. After completion of a three-week orientation program, a small stipend is paid to students who are accepted into the program.
