About Youth Build Detroit
YouthBuild May be the Place for You if You:
- Live in Detroit;
- Are between the ages of 18 and 24;
- Didn't complete high school or the GED;
- Have a low income;
- Want to earn your GED;
- Want to learn about the construction trades;
- Would like to give back to your community by building housing for low-income families.
The 5 Key Parts of the YouthBuild Program:
- Academics - Preparation for the GED test as well as building trades apprenticeship tests.
- Construction Training - On-the-job training in the skilled construction trades.
- Leadership - Give back to the community through community service projects, public speaking, and program governance.
- Counseling - Guidance and support in learning life skills to help students succeed.
- Job Development and Graduate Assistance - Job readiness training; job placement assistance for qualified graduates as well as follow-up counseling.
YouthBuild is a full-time, 10-month program. After completion of a three-week orientation program, a small stipend is paid to students who are accepted into the program.
